Before & After: Minnetonka Two Story Gets a Major Makeover!

Last fall we had the pleasure of working with an wonderful couple on a total renovation project in Minnetonka.  We worked with them from the house hunt to the final move in day-- and the home turned out AMAZING!

We met this couple in an open house on Boulder Creek, a previous renovation we completed in Minnetonka.  Although they really liked that home, they decided they wanted a mudroom.... mainly for their son (o.k. actually dog, but he's a member of the family too!).

We started our search and found this great house in Minnetonka pretty early on.  We knew from the start it was an awesome option and went to bat for a great price to protect our overall budget.  We purchased the home for them and completed all renovations with us paying all costs.  They were able to close on the home at the end of the remodel project with a standard loan, but got the home of their dreams!

It was a lot of fun to work directly with the future owners on the project.  They would send us photos from Houzz or Pinterest and we would make their vision a reality... usually on a much better budget than the photos we had from Restoration Hardware and other higher end remodel projects (we're talking $100k kitchens).  I typically presented them with 3 options that accomplished their look on their budget and they got final say.  It really did turn out beautifully!!  We hope you enjoy the before and after photos.  Here goes!

The exterior was in decent shape, but since we added a master suite addition above the garage, we needed to re-side the entire home.  The good news with that is, new siding meant a whole new look!  The private wooded backyard was also a HUGE bonus on this home.

The interior was also in decent shape, but very compartmentalized.  The kitchen was very small, the dining room was small and closed off and the family room felt like it was completely separate.  We opened everything up and the results were stellar!

The kitchen was a lot of fun.  We designed it based on being as open as possible, while still maintaining a good amount of cabinets and usable space.

The dining room also turned out great with direct access to the kitchen and family room.  We added a fireplace into the family room, which added a stylish and beautiful feature to the dining room as well!  The dining room easily seats 6 and there are stools at the eat in kitchen area as well- perfect for entertaining.

The family room lacked style, but was well sized.  We opened up some walls and added the fireplace.  The faux wood feature wall adds a great element into the room.  We love the way it turned out!

We had an extra bonus in this house of having a small living space in the back of the home that didn't really make sense for this family.  It was obvious to us from the start that this would be a PERFECT mudroom and laundry room.   It already had direct access to the garage and a large sliding patio door to the deck and backyard. We added a mud bench and large mud closet in addition to the laundry area with cabinets and appliances.  It turned out so, so well.

The previous upper level had 3 bedrooms and a shared full bathroom.  We couldn't find a way to add a master without adding an addition above the garage.  With that added addition, we created a 4th upper level bedroom, walk in closet and large private master bathroom with free standing tub and walk in shower.

The basement was technically finished in the previous house, but needed a bit of a makeover.  I actually really loved the forms on the wall, but unfortunately, they weren't insulated.  We re-finished the entire space and added a lot of square footage by opening up the existing wall.  There is a walkout door to the backyard, which was in a previously unfinished area of the basement.  We were able to move some of the utilities to open up the space and make the door more usable.

Well, I hope you like how it turned out!  We sure do and I know the sweet homeowners are big fans as well.  If you like what you see, let us know!  We have quite a few remodels in the works right now and are always open to creating a custom home specifically for you.  Please let us know if you have any questions!!
