Before & After: A TANGLETOWN TREASURE
When you find a home like this, in a charming Minneapolis neighborhood like Tangletown, you jump on the opportunity. It was a smaller house (compared to similar two stories in the area), but we knew with the right updates, it would find the perfect family to love and appreciate it's fetching details.
The home was original in most senses of the word - a true estate purchase. We were lucky that the previous owners update the roof, siding and furnace so that we could focus our time and attention to the overall aesthetic of the home. With great bones, the opportunity to change a dated space into a fantastic one are endless!
The main level had a great layout overall. The kitchen, dining and family room flowed quite well and felt adequately open to one another. There wasn’t an easy or inexpensive way to open up the walls, so we maintained the originally integrity of the home, but created a much more functional kitchen.
The downstairs bathroom simply needed a facelift! It's amazing how you can change a space with fresh finishes.
The upper level had three quaint bedrooms. No need to change the layout of those, just a simple re-surfaced facelift, lighting, refinishing of original wood floors and viola! The largest drawback of the original plan was the upper level shared bathroom had a tub, but with the vault of the ceiling, no shower head. It also had a VERY small area for the toilet and sink and an overall poor layout. We decided to steal some space from the shared hallway to create a large bathroom with a usable tub/shower and spacious double vanity.
This project was a delight. Though you can always expect the unexpected, seeing this 100+ year old home ready for a new family made it all worth it.
